GIVE SPACE
URBAN DESIGN

What is GIVE SPACE ?

ギブスペースとは ?

The divide between humanity and nature deepens. Human economic activity disrupts ecological balance, casting long shadows over our society.

We’re living the reality that scientific progress no longer guarantees our happiness—we feel it, we experience it in our daily lives. Yet why can’t we take the next step forward?
We believe it’s because we’ve taken SPACE away—from each other and from other living beings.

Ecologically, geopolitically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually—we’ve deprived ourselves and others of the SPACE needed simply to be. When we don’t have SPACE to be ourselves, we lose our capacity for presence.

Our imagination for others becomes blocked. Even trust in ourselves begins to shake.
So we give back SPACE—SPACE to be ourselves. We return SPACE to other beings and to those around us.

This practice of GIVING SPACE is compassion itself. By understanding what SPACE is needed—for ourselves, for others—and by returning that SPACE, we move toward balanced ways of being within the ecosystem.

Purpose

目的とビジョン

To create social, economic, and political systems where humanity fulfills its role within natural ecosystems and contributes to Earth's regeneration.

Mission

  1. Transition

Catalyze the shift from human-centered society to life-centered social, economic, and political systems.

  2. Urban Transformation

Transform cities, towns, and villages—where human activity concentrates—into catalysts for regenerative living.

  3. Sharing a Worldview

Share Give Space's philosophy and sensibility to learn from ecosystems and co-create a vision rooted in connection with all life.

  4. Practice and Education

Bring this philosophy to life through urban design, art, education, and policy.

  5. Returning Habitat (Give Space)

Restore habitat for other-than-human beings, contributing to planetary regeneration.

Values (Underlying Assumptions)

  1. Compassion

Our starting point is not solving problems, but expressing compassion—for our own lives and all life. This is what creates true paradigm shift.

  2. Life-Centered

When we return land to other beings, human civilization benefits and life weaves itself toward the future.

  3. Art as Process

Land use as an expression of compassion is art. How we hold our awareness, what actions we choose—the process itself regenerates culture.

  4. Stewardship (Responsibility as Earth Citizens)

As ecosystem engineers and a hyper-keystone species, we bear responsibility for caring for Earth.

  5. Inner Regeneration

Ecological regeneration begins within—in the distinctly human realms of heart, emotion, and spirit.

  6. Biophilic Habitat

When we harmonize urban environments with nature, our mental and emotional well-being regenerates too.

Profile

この団体について

We aim to realize social, economic, and political systems in which humans fulfill their role as part of the natural ecosystem and contribute to the regeneration of the Earth.

This organization develops, disseminates, and applies the GIVE SPACE Urban Design Methodology. By promoting regenerative thinking and the use of biophilic design, it aims to bring about system change among a wide range of decision-making stakeholders—individuals, organizations, local governments, and nation states—and thereby contribute to the restoration of ecosystems and to improving the well-being of plants, animals, and humans as animals.
